Often when you buy fruit it becomes ripe too fast. The good news is there are things you can do with it besides throwing it away, so step away from the garbage can and change that overripe fruit into something delicious.
There are many things you can do with fruit that has become too ripe to eat. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Make Bread
Overripe bananas are wonderful for banana bread but don't discount other fruits as well. You can use strawberries, peaches, and other fruits in bread as well.
Turn them into a pie
Everyone loves pie, and fruit pies are the best. This is a great way to use ripe fruit. You can make any type of fruit pie or even cobbler and the fact that the fruit is really ripe will add to its flavor.
Jam them into jars
Making jam doesn't have to be a huge chore with the quick and easy modern methods now available, and making jam is always a good way to use up fruit that is going to waste.
Juice it
If you own a juicer, then get it out and make yourself a glass of fruit juice. A food processor will work as well. If you don't feel like drinking the juice, it will make great popsicles too. You can also turn it into a delightful smoothie.
Create salad dressing
This works really well with strawberries, but any fruit will do. Just blend up the fruit and add some vinegar and olive oil and any seasonings you'd like.
If you've got fruit that's gone past the point of no return, don't throw it out. Just be a little creative and you'll find that you've got yourself a delicious pie, smoothie, or salad dressing that you and your family can enjoy.
