Easy Tips for Perfectly Grilled Vegetables

Vegetables are delicious when tossed in a salad or sautéed in olive oil. But to truly bring out their most delectable flavors, you should try grilling them. Grilled vegetables are the perfect accompaniment to grilled chicken, steaks, burgers, or seafood. Plus, there are so many seasonings and techniques to try that it’s impossible to get bored with them. Use the following tips to get started.

Try the foil packet method.

One way to grill vegetables is to seal them in foil packets. They’ll stay tender and perfectly seasoned. Simply whisk together your favorite seasonings. Olive oil, garlic, pepper, and salt are common choices. Then, toss your vegetables with the seasoning mix and place them in the foil packet. You can use any veggies you like, such as green beans, summer squash, mushrooms, wax beans, and bell pepper strips. Then, grill the packet over medium heat, seam side up, for about 20 minutes or until slightly tender.

Use a skewer or a grill basket.

While foil packets work well for keeping veggies tender, they won’t give you those nice seared grill marks. For that, you’ll need to either place the veggies directly on the grate or use a skewer. Skewering vegetables makes them easier to flip. If you’re grilling pieces of veggies that are too small to easily skewer, toss them in a grill basket instead.

Use oil or butter sparingly.

Tossing your vegetables with olive oil or melted butter will bring out their flavor. However, if you’re placing your veggies directly on the grate, in a grill basket, or on a skewer, you should only lightly oil or butter them. Using too much oil will cause the liquid to drip, resulting in flare-ups.
